During his early season departure from the Manchester City team, Jack Grealish acknowledged he “wasn’t playing with confidence”.
The England midfielder, who played a crucial role in the team that won the treble the previous year, admitted that he had trouble getting the new season off to a “difficult” start due to nagging injuries and a decline in his normal unwavering self-belief.
Grealish responded, “It’s been difficult,” when questioned about his season thus far.
“I had such a great season, especially considering how well I did the previous year. Being a key member of the squad, I was playing a lot and participating in all of the team’s crucial games.
“Yes, this year I did not play too much since I had a dead leg at the beginning of the season that kept me out for a month. My form wasn’t the best, and I didn’t play with much confidence, in my opinion. I experienced some groin injuries once more in the new year.”
When questioned about his lack of confidence, Grealish acknowledged that his training wasn’t up to par.
“I just think sometimes if you’re not playing and probably not up to it in training, in your own head you just don’t feel confident,” he stated.
“I don’t know, I just didn’t feel like I was performing well at the beginning of the season. To be honest, I didn’t think it fit all that well.
“Coming in the team, playing a game, then being out of the team, in and out, it was a little bit difficult but I feel good now.”Grealish has started four of City’s last five games following his recovery from a groin injury, including both legs of the Champions League quarterfinal against Real Madrid.
