Under new owner Shilen Patel, West Bromwich Albion may have a busy summer ahead of them.
This season, the Baggies have faced significant financial uncertainty due to ownership disputes and other issues that have limited the club’s options in both transfer markets.
That hasn’t stopped the Midlands team from being among the best this season, though, and they appear certain to make the playoffs.
Therefore, the team’s summer actions will probably rely on the division they play in the next season. However, Shilen Patel, a player who was previously identified as being of interest to West Brom, might be a nice addition to the team regardless of the outcome.
During the January transfer window, Albion was connected to Aston Villa defender Calum Chambers, but a deal never materialized. Considering the player’s circumstances, a contract might be reached this summer.
Calum Chambers began his career at Southampton, but Arsenal quickly signed him up due to his rise to prominence there.
The defender featured in over 100 games for the Gunners in his eight years there, in addition to time spent on loan at other teams.
After spending time on loan at Middlesbrough and Fulham, Chambers was unable to maintain his position at Arsenal and was free to negotiate a contract with Aston Villa in January 2022.
The player has only made a few appearances for the team, thus it hasn’t been a move that has helped his career.
Chambers has only made five appearances this season in all competitions, so the Baggies’ pursuit of the defender in January was not surprising.
It was said at the time that Villa was prepared to let Chambers quit the team once he moved down the hierarchy. However, that was insufficient to make the deal go through.
Since the 29-year-old’s contract is still good for another year and his circumstances haven’t improved significantly, Villa may be prepared to let him go this summer, which means West Brom may rekindle their interest.
