On April 22, the final New York Giants draft projections started to come in, and there seem to be three main schools of thought in the first round.
The Giants would prefer to trade up for Drake Maye, but with the Brian Burns trade, they might not have enough firepower to accomplish so.
J.J. McCarthy is the quarterback the Giants want, whether they select him at No. 6 or earlier.
Alternately, the Giants, who have Rome Odunze and Malik Nabers as their two top picks at No. 6, will select the best wide receiver available.
Indeed, there are other stories. The possibility of a trade-down has been raised. Additionally, some think that tight end Brock Bowers and offensive tackle Joe Alt should still be considered for the first round.
All the evidence, however, ultimately points to Big Blue’s desire in adding a quarterback in the first two rounds of the draft. Additionally, a lot of people now think that Bo Nix or Michael Penix Jr. might be the focus of a day two trade by general manager Joe Schoen and head coach Brian Daboll rather than Jayden Daniels, Maye, or McCarthy in the first place.
All of that being said, a fresh report from ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter on April 22 has an influence on those hypothetical backup quarterback plans. Schefter verified that, based on what he’s been hearing, Nix and Penix might be selected in the first round during an appearance on the Pat McAfee Show on Monday afternoon.
