Ronny Garcia, a former prospect for the Houston Astros, passed away in a car accident. He was 24 years old.
On Saturday, April 20, the Astros confirmed the pitcher’s passing with a post on X, formerly known as Twitter.
The franchise posted a picture of Garcia grinning for the camera while sporting an orange Astros shirt along with the words, “We are deeply saddened by the passing of former Astros prospect Ronny Garcia.” “Our condolences go out to his family and friends.”
Journalist Héctor Gómez, who is located in the Dominican Republic, claims that the pitcher passed away in a car accident there. According to Gómez, his father, who was with him at the time, also passed away.
Garcia and his father were engaged in a two-motorcycle collision on the Las Galeras-Samaná highway in Samaná, where he was born, according to Yahoo Sports.
Previously, Garcia spent six seasons as a relief pitcher in the Houston Astros farm system, spending time with the North Carolina-based Fayetteville Woodpeckers and Asheville Tourists. He pitched in the Florida Complex League in addition to signing as an international in 2016 at the age of 16, according to Yahoo Sports.
