NBA declares NBA Insider Marc Stein states that Steph Curry is one of the three contenders for Clutch Player of the Year and that the Spurs are a “potential team to watch” for Warriors guard Chris Paul.
The Warriors and Klay Thompson “took note” of Jrue Holiday of Boston’s four-year, $138 million contract extension.
Point guard Stephen Curry of the Golden State Warriors has been named a finalist for the Clutch Player of the Year award for this season. Curry, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander of the Oklahoma City Thunder, and DeMar DeRozan of the Chicago Bulls were announced by the NBA on Sunday as the three finalists competing to become the second winner of the award since it was first given out the previous season.
The Warriors’ superstar proved he still remains one of the best closers in the game. He led the league with 189 points in clutch situations and finished with an NBA-high seven go-ahead field goals in the final minute of the fourth quarter or overtime this season.
For more on this and other news around the NBA, here is our latest news round-up for Monday, April 22nd:”One team to keep an eye on in the event that Paul and the Warriors part ways is San Antonio. According to early rumors, the Spurs may become a suitor for Paul if they choose to pursue some veteran expertise on a short-term contract basis in order to provide more experienced support for presumed Rookie of the Year Victor Wembanyama in Year 2.”
Having played alongside Hall of Fame sharpshooters Steph Curry and Klay Thompson for so many years, Looney might be looking to take a page out of their book next season, and has a goal in mind should he begin pulling up from beyond the arc.
“Yeah, yeah. I can make a three. Yeah,” Looney said when asked if he plans to attempt for 3-pointers.
“When I look around the league, for a big, if I can shoot 35, 36 percent, I think that’s serviceable for all the other stuff I bring to the court. So, that’s probably about the goal right there.”
In the first game of the series, Kawhi Leonard did not play, therefore a strong start was essential. Prior to Sunday’s match, Leonard was deemed questionable. The team reports that he is making daily progress in treating the inflammation in his right knee, which has prevented the two-time NBA Finals Most Valuable Player from playing since March 31. The Clippers were prepared to play without him thanks to their last four-game winning streak of the regular season, which featured comeback victories over the Cavaliers and Denver Nuggets.
“We prepared as though he was going to play, of course,” Mavericks MVP candidate Luka Dončić remarked. That said, our mindset shouldn’t alter as a result. Their philosophy was next-man up, and they did very well, very well. We must remain.
