Heading into the 2024 NFL Draft, one of the largest needs for the Baltimore Ravens was at wide receiver and according to general manager Eric DeCosta, they had a specific type of prospect and skill set at the position in mind they wanted to add.
“We were looking for a different body type this year. In a recent interview with the podcast “The Lounge,” DeCosta stated, “We were looking for an outside big-bodied guy.” “I believe the theory that compares it to a dining establishment. When you visit a restaurant, you want to order from a wide variety of menu items. Nothing identical should be on the menu. It makes sense to use a variety of receiver types at the receiving position.
The Ravens consult franchise quarterback Lamar Jackson during the pre-draft process and offseason in general, as he is the one around whom the offense is centered and to whom the ball is ultimately thrown. The two-time league MVP made it clear that they wanted to add a bigger-bodied traditional X-type receiver to complement the skill sets of former first-round picks Nelson Agholor, Rashod Bateman, and Zay Flowers, even though he did not reveal the team list of specific wide receiver prospects he liked or scouted.
I believe we were able to provide him with the distinct body type and skill set he was expecting for outdoors, according to DeCosta.
The former ACC standout Devontez Walker, who the Ravens took in the fourth round at No. 113, is the aforementioned talent to whom he was alluding.
