Tyler Wittke, the quarterback for the Virginia Tech Hokies, accessed the transfer portal four days following the team’s Spring Game on April 13. Wittke entered the portal because Pop Watson performed well enough that day to overtake Kyron Drones as the backup quarterback going into the 2024 campaign.
Wittke committed to Minnesota for the upcoming season a few days after joining, leaving offensive coordinator Tyler Bowen and coach Brent Pry of Virginia Tech without a quarterback in the transfer portal. Adding a signal caller from the portal was a priority because the Hokies’ current scholarship signal callers are Drones, Watson, and incoming freshman Davi Belfort.
This past weekend, UCLA transfer Collin Schlee visited Virginia Tech (after a visit with Kentucky), and 48 hours after being on campus, he committed to the Hokies for the 2024 campaign, closing a significant roster gap that existed going into the summer.
