Vasilis Barkas, a former goalkeeper for Celtic, has complimented Joe Hart on his demeanor and abilities on the field. Before Joe Hart was brought in to become the starting goalkeeper in Ange Postecoglou’s first summer as manager, the Greek goalkeeper had a rough debut season after joining from AEK Athens for £4.5 million.
Barkas did, however, reminisce on his time at Celtic and said that, despite everything that he accomplished in the game, it was a “pleasure” to know Hart.
Joe Hart had a great sense of humor and was a terrific athlete in addition to being a wonderful person. Despite all of his success—including winning the FA Cup and Premier League with Manchester City—he never had an ego.
“He was modest and gave his all each and every training day. We laughed a lot together and had a great relationship. Knowing him was a pleasure.
Hart will find great value in these remarks, as he has already expressed a desire for his character to take precedence over his skill (which he possesses in spades). The former Man City championship winner hopes to go with a Scottish Cup and a Premiership before Brendan Rodgers and the team are forced to start shopping for a new goalkeeper. The team is hoping that Hart, not Barkas, will be the new addition.
Barkas reestablished his finest form with Utrecht after Celtic severed their links with him in the summer. With the Englishman securely in the top spot at Celtic, Barkas found himself lower on the pecking order, making just two appearances in the 2021–2022 season. Hart’s signing and Scott Bain’s new contract indicate that there was little chance of Hart ever making it back into the starting lineup.
