The fact that the Fighting Irish are competing in a novel NIL-based tournament that has the potential to be a major game changer for the sport is proof enough that Micah Shrewsberry has successfully persuaded the sports world that Notre Dame basketball is on the rise.
The elite eight-ranked basketball team from Notre Dame is expected to create an impression at the “Players Era Festival” in Las Vegas in November. Thanksgiving week is the designated time for this event, which offers a one-of-a-kind chance for the participants and $1 million NIL rewards for the participating schools.
Long-term NIL possibilities will also be made available to players such as Markus Burton. Seven teams have decided to participate in the Players Era Festival thus far.
The following universities have committed: Texas A&M, Houston, Notre Dame, Oregon, Rutgers, San Diego State, and Alabama. According to CBS Sports, the eighth school is one of a select few that is now being “deliberated” over. A decision has not yet been made about this group.
This is not a one-time event; it’s a new NIL project that has the potential to gain a lot of popularity. It’s even been reported that the organizers hope to see twice as many teams participating in 2025.
