GOOD NEWS: He Is Gone…

By all measures, Mark Pope’s first three weeks as the men’s basketball coach at the University of Kentucky were about as successful as could be predicted. Pope has gained praise from the collegiate basketball community for everything from his explosive debut at Rupp Arena to the fact that the Wildcats’ next roster and coaching staff were assembled entirely from scratch.

The Herald-Leader was informed by 247Sports national analyst Travis Branham that “he’s done a really good job.” Particularly when you include in the staff’s integration within the same period of time. Therefore, it’s good quality that he’s been able to get, not just the amount of guys. several excellent components that work nicely together. Given that John Calipari’s 2023–24 UK roster had zero scholarship players returning (all ten upperclassmen had either entered the NBA draft or used the transfer portal), and that none of the six new recruits the former Kentucky coach had brought in had fully committed to staying around when Pope took over, the new coach faced a significant rebuilding task with little time to complete it.
