In Game 5 of their conference semifinal series, the New York Knicks, led by Jalen Brunson, defeated the Indiana Pacers by a commanding 30-point margin at home on Tuesday night, moving them to within one game of the Eastern Conference Finals. In this game, Brunson was incredible. After a difficult showing in Game 4, he rebounded to score 44 points with remarkable efficiency, making the Knicks team—which was missing several of its best frontcourt players—look like a formidable force.
Stephen A. Smith, a sports media personality for ESPN and occasional Knicks fan, was excited by what he saw at Madison Square Garden on Tuesday night. On Wednesday morning, Smith made a bold prediction for the remaining games of the series, which will resume in Indiana on Friday night.
Through First Take on X, the social networking site that was once known as Twitter, Smith stated, “I think they clinched the series.” It’s unclear if it will take place across six or seven games, but anything can happen in a Game 7. However, I think they’ve won the series. Jalen Brunson was outstanding, and they don’t know how to respond to him.
