One of the top offensive lineman in the nation plays for the Texas Longhorns. In his two seasons as a college football player, left tackle Kelvin Banks has established himself as one of the best at his position. In 1,006 pass-blocking snaps, Banks has only allowed two quarterback hits, according to Pro Football Focus.
With their victory on Sunday, UL qualified for the regional finals for the first time since 2016. It also put an end to the Longhorns’ three-game losing streak in regional play, which dates back to their 13-6 victory over Texas in the 1999 Houston regional.
Coach Matt Deggs of UL stated, “We were able to use our short game really well as well.” “That revealed a few things to us, and as the game progressed, I believe that started to wear on them. Because of it, we were able to gather some knocks.
“Momentum, conviction, and confidence are genuine. In baseball, they may not be visible, but they do exist.”
“I felt the bubble burst whenever John (Taylor) got that two-strike, two-out knock in the 6-hole over there and that kind of opened up the rest of that inning,” Deggs said. “Really what started the barrage was a two-out drag bunt by (Duncan) Pastore. That led to Jose’s jack and ultimately Broussard’s.”
Torres finished the game 3-for-5 with the homer and four RBIs after a run-scoring single in the ninth.
“He doesn’t get tired man,” Deggs said of Torres. “That guy’s a dog. We started choking up – everybody three inches – as the day went on just because of the humidity and the heat.”
