Billy Napier, the new bench boss of the Florida football program, is getting ready for his third season in charge of the program. Their quest to accomplish their first winning season since 2021 is, however, overshadowed by a lawsuit brought by Georgia Bulldogs quarterback Jaden Rashada. Prior to the 2023 season, the Florida Gators made an effort to entice Rashada to join the SEC. Still, the former top prospect signed with the Arizona State Sun Devils after a dispute over a name, image, and likeness (NIL) arrangement. Rashada has since launched a lawsuit against Florida football, naming former staff member Marcus Castro-Walker and sponsor Hugh Hathcock in particular.
In his case, Rashada claims that the program deceitfully promised $13.8 million in non-taxable loans for the 2022–2023 recruiting cycle. This allegation might have a big impact on the Florida football program. In addition, he says Napier promised a signing day reward of $1 million. Napier discussed the matter with the media on Tuesday, saying he is “grateful for the university’s support” and “comfortable with (his) actions.” Marcus Castro-Walker’s attorney also spoke out on Tuesday, defending his client against what he called a “baseless lawsuit.”
I am proud to be representing Marcus Castro-Walker in defense of the baseless lawsuit filed by Jaden Rashada. Marcus has no comment at this time, but he looks forward to clearing his name by having the true facts come to light soon.
