The college football transfer portal’s spring window is long gone. It’s never too late, though, to discuss ideal fits.
Smoke Dixon has had positions with the Buffalo Bills, Alabama Crimson Tide, Maryland Terrapins, and the XFL’s DC Defenders front office. He has witnessed numerous maneuvers, player placements, and flawless fits. He characterizes Damonic Williams’ trip to Oklahoma in this way.
“Man, I love this young man and his game,” Dixon said. “Went back and watched the tape, here’s a couple things I know about him. Stout at the line of scrimmage, cat-like instincts in terms of quickness. Can get off the ball in a hurry but might be a bit limited in terms of his length.”
Williams is a multifaceted player with exceptional talent. However, Dixon believed that he might not have been able to take advantage of his advantages.
“In my opinion, he was playing out of position at TCU,” Dixon stated. “Where they run that odd front, and he was lined up in a 4i which is directly over the offensive tackle, and you saw that he was limited in range and then quickness in terms of being able to bend and get the edge.”
That’s about to change. And because of Williams’s future plans, it will alter.
