SO SAD: It’s With Heavy Heart 49ers Announce The Passing Away Of Key Prospect Who Was Involved In…

SANTA CLARA, CALIFORNIA - JANUARY 11: Jimmy Garoppolo #10 speaks with head coach Kyle Shanahan of the San Francisco 49ers during the NFC Divisional Round Playoff game against the Minnesota Vikings at Levi's Stadium on January 11, 2020 in Santa Clara, California. The 49ers’ standoff with Brandon Aiyuk gets a bit tense with every new wide receiver deal, like the record-setting one that the Vikings just awarded Justin Jefferson. It’s not shocking that he hasn’t shown up for the team’s offseason training, but it is a clue that things aren’t going well between the two sides.

Furthermore, it doesn’t seem like the Niners’ front office is going in that direction, even though Jefferson’s contract does, in theory, provide them a more precise set of guidelines to work within. If Adam Schefter’s podcast is accurate, which it usually is, the San Francisco front office tried a different strategy: trying to acquire Jefferson directly.

In a recent podcast episode, Schefter provided some (very brief) details about Jefferson’s negotiations and the extent to which the star was genuinely close to departing Minnesota. Schefter lists a few teams that attempted, but were unable, to trade for him at one point. He lists the 49ers, Jets, and Colts as among of those clubs that awarded the Vikings a championship ring.

“Every team that called the Vikings before the draft was told ‘we’re not trading him,'” he stated. “The conversations went nowhere with anybody.”

On the one hand, you give *Justin Jefferson* a call or two when you find out that he’s available. Among transcendent players, he is one of the few whose positional fit is essentially irrelevant. In the event that he is tradeable.
