Although the Dallas Mavericks are not required to win Game 3 of the 2024 NBA Finals, it is undoubtedly a game that the Western Conference winners cannot afford to lose.
The Mavericks would trail the Boston Celtics 0-3 after another loss. After falling behind 0-3, no club has ever triumphed in the NBA Finals or any other NBA postseason series.
The Mavericks, who have a 5-3 postseason record at home, are fortunate to be returning. However, virtually every Mavericks player has performed poorly thus far in the series, with the exception of Luka Doncic. The Celtics have been happy to let Doncic do his thing without interfering with his teammates’ ability to establish a rhythm.
Dallas was kept under 100 points in the first two games at TD Garden by Boston’s defense. In their previous 17 postseason games, the Mavericks only scored fewer than 100 points four times.
