According to Marc Stein of The Stein Line, All-Star guard Donovan Mitchell is anticipated to consent to a three-year contract extension with the Cleveland Cavaliers, rather than a four-year one.
With one year remaining on his current contract, Mitchell may extend it for a maximum of four years and roughly $209 million.
In the upcoming days, Stein stated, “Mitchell is now widely expected to come to terms on a contract extension with the Cavaliers, possibly for three years rather than four.”
Hoops Wire was informed by insiders that the Cavs and Mitchell could come to an agreement in the coming week. Mitchell allegedly gave his OK for Cleveland to appoint Golden State Warriors assistant Kenny Atkinson as its next coach.
Mitchell shot 46.2% from the field, 36.8% from 3-point range, and 86.5% from the free-throw line last season, averaging 26.6 points, 5.1 rebounds, and 6.1 assists.
His career averages with the Jazz and Cavs are 24.8 points, 4.3 rebounds, and 4.6 assists. He is a native of New York. In 2023–24, he put up a career-high 71 points against the Chicago Bulls.
The Cavaliers lost to the Boston Celtics in five games in the second round of the playoffs after defeating the Orlando Magic in seven games in the first round. Due to an injury, Mitchell missed Games 4 and 5 of the Celtics series.
The NBA Draft, which takes place on Wednesday, is their next priority. The No. 20 overall pick is owned by the Cavaliers. Cleveland does not have a selection in the second round, which is scheduled for the following day.
