The hometown lure ultimately prevailed here for Stroud, a native of Tampa, Florida, who had recently received an offer from UCF after the four-star first selected Wisconsin over South Florida earlier this month.
The Badgers had been successful in acquiring another cornerback from Florida by exerting strong pressure on Stroud during the spring, leading to a prompt commitment in June following his formal visit.
But Stroud had to make a difficult choice, and he will now play his college ball closer to home after receiving an offer from UCF.
Stroud received 28 scholarship offers during his recruitment, including offers from Utah, Texas A&M, Penn State, and Ole Miss, among others.
But, the offers from Florida schools hadn’t really come, with Florida A&M and South Florida being the two lone scholarships before UCF came calling.
With Stroud’s de-commitment, the Badgers now have Jahmare Washington as their lone corner in the 2025 class, although athletes Jaimier Scott and Remington Moss could both earn opportunities at the position.
Additionally, the Badgers are still pursuing SMU three-star commit Zadian Gentry and uncommitted in-state four-star Tre Poteat with hopes of adding to their secondary.
But, this one serves as a blow for the Badgers, who now have 20 commits in their 2025 class.
