SAD NEWS: Southend United ‘Jason Demetriou’ Suffers a Career Ending Injury After…

Southend United are delighted to announce the signing of 26-year-old striker Josh Walker on a two-year deal.

Walker, who joins for an undisclosed fee, has signed from League One side Burton Albion, where he made 35 appearances, scoring three goals for the Brewers.

Walker has plenty of experience in the National League, making a total of 106 National League appearances for clubs including Dagenham & Redbridge and Barnet. Across his time in this division, he has netted a total of 32 goals and collected five assists.

The 5’9″ forward began his career with the youth teams of Fulham and Tottenham. Later, at the age of 20, he joined Hendon of the Isthmian League, where he scored goals at a ratio of one to two.

In preparation for the 2024–2025 season, he now makes his arrival to Roots Hall as Kevin Maher’s first summer signing.

“It feels good and it’s been a long time coming,” Walker exclaimed. Although we were unable to complete it in January, I was aware that there was interest. It’s wonderful to be here now that the embargo has been removed.

“I enjoy playing football. Going direct is fine with me, but I prefer the ball to be on the ground. I’m more of an off-the-shoulder player who likes to run in behind and score as many goals as possible. I don’t mind standing up.

“We would have qualified for the playoffs last season if there hadn’t been a points deduction. That demonstrates the strength of their group. I observed the quality when I trained this morning, and maybe I can perform well and add to it.

Walker’s presence in the facility makes Kevin Maher very happy. “We all know Josh very well from his time with Barnet and Dagenham,” he remarked. He made a fantastic move.

“We’ve been short of players for a while and it’s been frustrating watching everyone else bring players in. We’ve had to be patient, but we’re delighted with what we’ve been able to do and we’re grateful to everyone at the Club for allowing us to do this.”

The deal is subject to National League and FA approval.
