Trent Barrett, the interim coach of the Parramatta Eels, has expressed his desire in taking on the role permanently.
Barrett remarked that his experience at Parramatta was “completely different” from his previous experiences while speaking on 2GB’s Continuous Call Team on Saturday.
Before joining the Eels to serve under Brad Arthur last year, Barrett had held head coaching positions with Manly and the Bulldogs in the past two years.
The answer was “Yeah,” “During the first several weeks, I tried not to say too much. When there’s movement and you’re close to the head coach, it’s never an easy one “explained Barrett.
However, moving forward is something that we must all do, and I’ve truly loved it.
“Parramatta is an excellent club with a strong team and a secure foundation. This experience is quite different from the last two that I’ve had.”
Barrett is rumored to be on a shortlist with Michael Maguire, Josh Hannay, Jason Ryles, and Michael Cheika.
Barrett stated he’s in the best position to audition, even though Ryles is thought to be the favorite.
“I’m in a good position where I’m there, in the shop window every day with the powers that be,” stated the man.
“But if we can keep winning games, that will undoubtedly assist.
“I want to have the chance to mentor them in the long run, but I guess that’s a little bit beyond my control.
“That will assist if we continue to win. But the players are my first concern. All I have to do is get them to win this week and make them ready as much as possible.”
On Monday, when the Eels play the Bulldogs, fullback Clint Gutherson will play in his 200th NRL game.
