GOOD NEW FOR KANSAS: HE IS GONE…

The Wildcats might be formidable because K-State improved at quarterback with budding star Avery Johnson, who is ready to take center stage and has skill at all skill positions. Under coach Chris Klieman, they should be able to push for a second Big 12 title in three years if the offensive line continues to play well. They will also have an experienced defense.

Avery Johnson, the quarterback, offers a welcome safety blanket while the team and coaches acclimate. Johnson was arguably the most important prospect the Wildcats had ever signed when he signed a year ago. In the Pop-Tarts Bowl victory over NC State, he made his quarterbacking debut and recorded five rushing touchdowns in his backup role versus Texas Tech.

Star running back DJ Giddens, who rushed for 1,226 yards and 10 touchdowns last season, will be on either side of him. Jadon Jackson, Jayce Brown, and Keagan Johnson—three of the key players at receiver—return, and the Wildcats also acquire Penn State transfer Dante Cephas.

Four multi-year starters depart across the offensive front, and Ben Sinnott is off to the NFL after being one of the best tight ends in the Big 12 each of the last two seasons.
