SKY SPORTS NEWS : Am No Longer Welcome So I Will Terminate Truro New Manager ”John Askey” Angrily Confirm To..

John Askey has been named the new first team manager of Truro City for a number of years. The announcement is being made with great pleasure.

The 59-year-old has extensive managing experience in both the National League’s top two divisions and the English Football League.

Askey, who hails from Stoke-on-Trent, also enjoyed a successful playing career with Macclesfield Town and after playing for the Silkmen 679 times, he is the club’s all-time leading appearance maker.

After hanging up his boots in 2003 he moved into management and he took charge of Macclesfield in the same year. In 2004, Brian Horton took over at Moss Rose and Askey remained at the club, holding a variety of coaching positions until he became manager again some nine years later.

Askey led Macclesfield back to the Football League in 2018 under severe financial constraints before moving to League One team Shrewsbury Town.

Askey next went to Port Vale, the team where he started his career before relocating to Macclesfield, before taking over as manager of York City, which resulted in a promotion from National League North to the National League.

Most recently, before to taking over as manager of Truro City ahead of the 2024–25 season, he was the manager of Hartlepool United.

“It is a new start for the club coming to a new ground,” Askey told trurocity.co.uk. “It is exciting times although it will be a challenge, but I am looking forward to the project ahead.

We’re hopeful that with support from the whole community in Cornwall, we can succeed. Growing this club into a prosperous one is the main goal.

“Truro has performed admirably over the last few years, but we want to keep moving forward and getting better right now.

“We want conviction, and that is all we can hope for as long as the fans witness the players going after them.” We can compete if you, as a player, combine that with being strong, disciplined, and physically fit.

“It will be tough, initially, but we have a lovely ground and the pitch will be fantastic to play on so hopefully we can play some good football and entertain the supporters, by winning games.”
