Leclerc joined the Ferrari Driver Academy and debuted in Formula One in 2018 with the Sauber team, which is connected to Ferrari. Leclerc, the higher-ranked of the two Sauber drivers, spearheaded the charge to improve the team’s finishing place in the Constructors’ Championship to ninth, after Sauber had finished last the previous year. The next season, he signed with Ferrari and qualified on pole at the Bahrain Grand Prix in 2019, making him the second-youngest driver in Formula One history.
