Mystik Dan is a bay colt that Daniel Hamby and Lance Gasaway bred in Kentucky.[5] The combination of Hamby’s father’s first name (Dan) and his father’s first company (Mystik Tape) gave him his moniker.[6] He is an Arabian descended from Darley.[7]
Trainer Kenneth McPeek purchased Mystik Dan’s dam Ma’am on behalf of the owners, and he suggested that Goldencents mate with her. He foaled the colt at his Magdalena Farm, which is close to Lexington. At Kentucky’s Spendthrift Farm, Goldencents, a two-time Breeders’ Cup Dirt Mile winner in Grade 1, is up for $10,000 in 2024.[8]
