Carlos Corberán acknowledged that Albion’s performance against Sheffield Wednesday on Saturday afternoon fell short of what was required.
At Hillsborough, the Owls defeated the Baggies 3-0 thanks to goals from Josh Windass, Ike Ugbo, and Anthony Musaba.
Shortly after the full-time whistle, the manager admitted as much in an interview with WBA TV.
Carlos stated: “I believe it was evident that we were not competitive enough today to get the outcome we desired.
It’s critical to examine the causes of that at this point. We are a single team made up of staff employees and athletes who will always assume accountability. This kind of result requires you to identify the remedies.
We switched to playing with winger Matt Phillips rather than midfielder Alex Mowatt. Given the significance of the second balls and the set pieces, we decided to keep Okay in the XI.
“Instead of starting three midfielders, we wanted to add a winger to the team.
“We cleared the first ball, but they immediately put it back in and scored their first goal.”
We cannot make excuses and we have to manage those situations much better.
“If you look at the corners we created, we created some big chances from them. They only had two or three corners and we had five or six in the first period. As I say, we created some big chances from them but we couldn’t put the ball in the net.
