Brendan Rodgers’ sole “question mark” when it comes to fitness is Celtics captain Callum McGregor, according to Stephen McGinn.
Furthermore, the expert believes that despite making his first start after overcoming an Achilles injury in the thrilling 3–2 Scottish Cup semifinal match against Aberdeen, the Scotland international hasn’t completely allayed supporters’ fears. The Celtic skipper was still not at full speed for the run-in, therefore Tomoki Iwata was brought on in the second half of the match against the Dons at the national stadium.
The captain of Falkirk, McGinn, acknowledges that he was worried about McGregor’s potential to affect both the Hoops’ return to Mount Florida for the Old Firm cup final and Rangers’ battle for the Scottish Premiership title. Regarding the recent reappearance of Liam Scales and Reo Hatate, McGinn stated on Go Radio: “Callum McGregor’s fitness remains the one area of uncertainty.
“I did wonder what role he would have to play, and although I believe that starting him last week is a sign that he will return to full health before the season ends, I didn’t think he looked like 100 percent last week. He wasn’t quite as free-flowing, in my opinion. You thought for a moment or two that he was going to take the game by storm, but he didn’t.”
In recent weeks, Rodgers’ injury problems have improved, as Daizen Maeda is expected to be the only member of the starting lineup missing Sunday’s matchup against Dundee. But he is expected to return before the season ends, which will be a huge plus for Celtic.
