A guy has admitted to killing his wife, beating her to death in their house with a skateboard while police tried to barge in.
In a late plea, Olobunmi Abodunde, 48, acknowledged killing Taiwo Abodunde, 41, who was the victim of her death.A court heard that she sustained “catastrophic injuries” during the incident on November 28 in Newmarket, Suffolk.
The police watchdog acknowledged that three officers are being looked into for possible misconduct related to the matter. At the Ipswich Crown Court on May 9, sentences will be handed out.
Police had been called to the couple’s Exning Road home several times in the past for domestic problems, including the day before the fatal attack, according to the prosecution.
After working a night shift at Tesco, Abodunde went to the property just after 9:00 GMT, despite being advised not to go there and being granted bail.
‘I am guilty, Sir’
Two officers arrived at the couple’s home eight minutes later for a scheduled follow up visit with Mrs Abodunde about the previous day’s domestic incident.
“They heard a number of bangs, which the Crown suggest was the defendant continuing to attack his wife,” prosecutor Stephen Spence KC told Ipswich Crown Court.
When the officers forced entry to the property they found Mrs Abodunde “clearly dead” on the floor close to the front door, the court was told.
The court heard Mrs Abodunde, a nurse, suffered “catastrophic injuries”, including broken ribs and having her skull “smashed in” with a skateboard after being “throttled”.
Asked by Judge Martyn Levett for his plea, Abodunde, a Nigerian national, said: “I am guilty, Sir.”
