The Phoenix Suns had a number of issues in the 2023–24 campaign, but their lack of a real point guard was the most glaring one. The Suns welcomed Isaiah Thomas back into the fold to finish off their bench since things went so terrible toward the end of the season.
That being said, it is obvious that the Suns will require a true floor general to plan and carry out their offensive half-court setups in order to avoid facing an even greater challenge to qualify for the postseason the next year. The team doesn’t have the money to go out and get talent at this position, despite the current head coach Frank Vogel’s best efforts to convey to everyone during the season how much one was required.
The Suns must pursue this path even if it means Bradley Beal will eventually need to come off the bench in order to make room for one of these players. Although Devin Booker did a great job leading the team during the regular season, he was not the explosive scorer that The Valley has come to anticipate.
Acquiring one of these unrestricted free agents would enable Booker to resume his most productive role, and it would also prevent Kevin Durant from being dissatisfied with his own position in the Suns’ offense in the future. In addition, it would make Grayson Allen the sixth man for the Suns, a role that many believe he was always destined to play last season.
