SO SAD: St. Louis City Lost Five First Team Players Due To….

On the road, St. Louis CITY SC was defeated 4–3 by Vancouver Whitecaps FC. Early in the first half, Njabulo Blom scored his first goal of the year. On the goal, Chris Durkin recorded his third assist of the year. Then, in the twelfth minute, team captain Eduard Löwen converted a penalty kick. In the 37th minute, Vancouver added another goal to make the score 2-1. In the second half, the Whitecaps scored three goals. Nökkvi Thórisson scored his first goal of the season in stoppage time in the second half, with Indiana Vassilev providing the assist. On Wednesday, July 3, St. Louis will host the San Jose Earthquakes at CITYPARK.

Brendan McSorley, an attacker, and Tyson Pearce and Jayden Reid, defenders, were brought to St. Louis CITY SC on a short-term loan from the Club’s MLS NEXT Pro squad, St Louis CITY2. At 9:30 p.m. CT on Saturday at BC Place, McSorley, Pearce, and Reid will be available for the MLS match against Vancouver Whitecaps FC.

In his MLS debut on June 19, McSorley got his third call-up against the Colorado Rapids. For CITY2, he has made 13 starts and scored two goals. During his four seasons at Providence College, the native of Randolph, New Jersey, scored 23 goals and provided five assists in 62 games. As a senior, he played in all 17 games, starting them all, and finished with 11 goals and 1 assist for his most successful college season.

Pearce, 16, is now designated off the senior roster and is one of three homegrown players for CITY SC. He has been called up to the MLS twice in 2024. Out of the 15 matches CITY2 has played this year, he has started eight of them.

On June 22, Reid, 22, began and completed the full 90 minutes of play against Atlanta United to make his Major League Soccer debut. He will be called up to the MLS twice in 2024. On December 21, 2022, he joined as the 29th Red Bulls Homegrown. He was formerly a member of the Red Bulls Academy. As a left back, Reid has made 13 appearances since joining CITY2 and has two assists.

Per MLS rules, the short-term agreement allows clubs to sign players on loan from their MLS NEXT Pro affiliate for MLS, U.S. Open Cup, Concacaf Champions League, Canadian Championship and exhibition matches.

An individual player may be included on up to four MLS league season match rosters each season, however, that player may appear in no more than two MLS league season matches. An individual player may appear in any number of non-league games during the terms of his four Short-Term Agreements.
